Massimo Oddo is the new SPAL coach

S.P.A.L. announces that he has entrusted Massimo Oddo with the role of coach of the first team.

The new biancazzurro coach signed a contract until June 30, 2023 with automatic renewal until June 30, 2024 if salvation is achieved.

Born in Pescara in 1976, Oddo grew up footballing in the A.C. Milan youth team, before making his professional debut with Fiorenzuola in Serie C1 in 1995. In the 1998/1999 season he had his first experience in the cadetteria with Monza, while on the 30th September 2000 he made his debut in the Serie A championship for Hellas Verona.

In 2002 he moved to Lazio where he played for five seasons, during which he made his debut in both the Champions League and the UEFA Cup and won a Coppa Italia in 2003/2004. After more than 170 appearances and 17 goals for the biancoceleste shirt, he moved to Milan with which he starred in the Champions League victory in the 2007 final in Athens played against Liverpool. In the same year he also lifted the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup with the rossoneri, while in 2011, in his last season with Milan, he won the Scudetto and the Supercoppa Italiana.

He made his debut for the national team in the August 2002 friendly against Slovenia, carving out an increasingly leading role for himself in the following years with the Azzurra shirt, which led him to lift the historic World Cup won by Italy in 2006.

In 2012 he retired from playing football after a total score of 550 appearances and 38 goals among professionals and the following year he had his first experience as a coach in the youth sector of Genoa. In 2014 he was appointed coach of Pescara's Primavera and led the young white and blue until May of the following year when, one day before the end of the Serie B Championship, he was promoted to coach of the first team.

Thanks to the victory won on his debut, he qualified for the playoffs and came close to an incredible promotion to Serie A as a substitute, faded only by Bologna's best league finish. The landing in the top division, however, was only postponed for a year when Oddo, confirmed at the helm of the Pescara first team, finished the championship in fourth place and triumphed in the promotion play-offs.

In the 2017/2018 season he took over from Luigi Del Neri at the helm of Udinese, while in the following years he had various experiences in Serie B with Crotone, Perugia and Pescara. Last year he was called to the Padova bench, with which he won the Serie C Italian Cup and came close to being promoted to Serie B, reaching the playoff final then lost in the two-legged match against Palermo.

From today Massimo Oddo is the coach of S.P.A.L. and to complete his staff there will be: Marcello Donatelli (assistant coach), Stefano Fiore (technical collaborator) and Luca Guerra (athletic trainer).

Welcome to Ferrara mister!
